OTTAWA, ON – The freezing rain is coming down in the capital region, and to the west of us, this is causing headaches on major roadways.

Highway 17  is closed in both directions in the Petawawa area from Paquette Road to Highway 41 and also in Deep River.

Steven is a truck driver and tells 1310News he has been waiting for the highway to reopen since 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

He adds there is a long line of vehicles waiting to get through once the highway reopens in the area.

In the capital, the freezing rain started around 9 a.m. and is expected to last until noon.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the capital region – which extends as far west as Petawawa and includes Gatineau.

The Rink of Dreams in Ottawa has been closed temporarily because of the weather.
