CALGARY – A military jury in Calgary will resume deliberations on Sunday in the case of a Canadian reservist charged in a fatal training accident in Afghanistan.
Major Darryl Watts faces charges that include manslaughter, unlawfully causing bodily harm, breach of duty and negligent performance of duty.
The military judge overseeing the court martial delivered a two-hour charge to the five-member military panel on Saturday.
Commander Peter Lamont says the jury is the judge of the facts and will determine the guilt or innocence of the accused.
Watts was charged after a Claymore anti-personnel mine explosion on a training range in February 2010 that claimed the life of Corporal Josh Baker and wounded four others.
The prosecution alleges that Watts didn’t ensure that safety procedures were followed.
