OTTAWA, Ont. - More than 250 protesters braved the rain and stood outside the Ottawa Convention Centre to greet Premiere Dalton McGuinty on Tuesday night and show their frustration with Bill 115.
McGuinty was in town for the Ontario Liberal Fund’s Ottawa Trillium dinner and many demonstrators saw it as the perfect opportunity to make a statement.
“It’s been nine months of talking and now that we’ve finally … moved to concentrated, legal strike action, now we’re the bad guys,” says Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Teachers’ Federation president Peter Giuliani.
“Are you kidding me? Seriously. Get out here and fix your problem,” says Giuliani, gesturing to the building.
As the crowd huddled in the rain, they listened to a rather rebellious sound track including tracks like “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who.
Protesters also showed their anger with home-made signs.
One poster read: “If idiots could fly, McGuinty’s office would be an airport.”
