A local ownership group is making a bid to try and bring Double-A baseball to Ottawa.

The McGary Family, of Hulse, Playfair and McGary Funeral Homes, has confirmed to 1310news that they’re one of around 20 local investors looking to raise money for the cause.

The investors are part of a larger consortium looking to purchase a Double-A club from the Eastern League.

Patrick McGary told 1310news he’s excited about the possibility.

“Certainly baseball is strong in Ottawa,” said McGary.

“This is a family entertainment event that we think would be accessible to a large portion of our community that perhaps an NHL hockey team isn’t.”

The Ottawa group is rumoured to be pushing to bring the Binghamton Mets to Ottawa. But the efforts reportedly suffered a setback this week when Nolan Ryan’s Ryan-Sanders Entertainment group dropped out as a potential majority owner.
