OTTAWA – The mother accused of kidnapping her nine-year-old daughter two weeks ago has been charged with abduction, disobeying a court order and failing to provide the necessaries for life.

A publication ban has been put in place, which prevents the media from identifying the girl, her mother,  and her father, who has full custody of his daughter.

The little girl was found with her mother near Toronto on Wednesday night, and was returned to her father Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Shaw with Durham Regional Police, told 1310News they joined forces with Ottawa Police in the investigation which led to the arrest of the young girl’s mother.  The woman was transported to Ottawa to face charges.

Shaw added a surveillance operation was set up outside of a residence in Pickering, but would not comment on what information led them there.

“I can tell you that the young girl is safe inside the residence,” Shaw said.

An AMBER Alert was never issued for the young girl, but areas such as Toronto, York Region, Niagara and Durham Region, British Columbia and Quebec were all put on notice as it was thought the two might have traveled there.
