OTTAWA, ON- It was one year ago that the city and Plasco reached a 20 year, $180 million deal to process Ottawa’s garbage.
Environment committee chair, Maria McRae told 1310News, they haven’t signed on the bottom line just yet.
“I can confirm that there will be a deal signed by the end of the year,” McRae said.
For seven years, the city and Plasco have talked about working together to deal with Ottawa’s waste management. It’s been one year since the two sides came to a consensus, according to McRae.
“The city solicitor and city manager have done significant due diligence,” McRae told 1310News.
The city has been looking for alternatives to waste management.
“It means we extend the life of the Trail road landfill and we certainly provide a revolutionary way to address waste,” said McRae.
Plasco may be looking to make small changes to the agreement. It wants to move the site of the plant at the Trail Road location and it may look for an extension past March 31, 2013 to break ground on the new facility.
