UGANDA — An Ottawa woman has died from injuries she sustained in a collision in Uganda last week.

Agnes Zabali, 53, was hit by a garbage truck while waiting on the side of a road with her son last Wednesday.

Zabali, an adviser with Canada’s federal justice department, suffered extensive trauma to her legs, and was taken off life support Thursday morning.

Her son, Jimmy Sebulime, 34, a graduate of Algonquin College, was also hit and remains in critical condition in hospital.

The two were working with the Canada-Africa Community Healthcare Alliance.  The charity announced Zabali’s death through a blog post, saying “It is with great sadness that we inform you all that Agnes passed away today. Our hearts are with her family to support them through this difficult time.

God give them strength in their darkest hour, bring peace to their hearts, console them and guide them.”
