OTTAWA, Ont. – It’s one for the record book! Ottawa’s balmy temperatures on Wednesday broke a weather record.
The Ottawa airport was reporting a temperature of almost 12 degrees Wednesday afternoon, more than doubling the old daily record of 5.6 degrees set in 1974.
It looks like two records may have been broken this week, as temperatures were at 9 degrees early Thursday morning. The record for January 31 is 8.5 set back in 1988.
There is bad news. The spring-like weather will be short lived.
“Winter now returns with a vengeance,” said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor. “Some flurries are forecast for today and tonight and we could have some accumulated snow Sunday and Monday, even into Tuesday, and it will be a very cold start to the month of February.”
