Anyone weary of winter will probably be paying close attention this weekend, as Groundhog Day is Saturday.
Every year, Ontario’s Wiarton Willie, Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam, Alberta’s Balzac Billy and Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil make their predictions on how much longer winter will stick around based on whether or not they see their shadows.
If a shadow is seen, the furry forecasters retreat into their den preparing for another six weeks of winter. If no shadow is spotted, then spring-like conditions are just around the corner.
Every year, Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2.
