Hélène Campbell’s dream to dance with Ellen DeGeneres has arrived!
The Ottawa native flew to California last week to tape an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday which will air Tuesday.
The 21-year-old double-lung transplant recipient first appeared on the show last February, via Skype, from her Toronto apartment while she was waiting for a donor. She received her transplant on Good Friday last year.
The talk show host has followed Campbell throughout her ordeal from the search for new lungs, to the surgery, to her recovery.
In September 2011, she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, which scars and thickens the lungs to the point of incapacity, death.
Campbell has become the face of organ donation with her “Lung Story” campaign which raises awareness for organ donation through social media. It has also caught the attention of celebrities such as Justin Bieber, who re-tweeted Campbell’s message to his 16-million followers.
Helene told the Sun she doesn’t know what to expect when meeting Ellen, but that hopes that being on the show will show people that there is life after a transplant.
