OTTAWA – Two fires kept emergency crews busy into the early morning hours of Sunday.  They also left several people without a place to live and arson investigators searching for clues.

The first blaze erupted at approximately 1:00 a.m. at the University of Ottawa’s Arts Building located at 170 Laurier Avenue E.

Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished a book shelf which was burning in a stairwell.

Ottawa Fire investigators told 1310News, arson was suspected in the incident which caused $2,000 in damages.

Meanwhile, a few hours earlier, around 10:30 p.m. a fire broke out in the Billings Bridge area.

Ottawa Fire responded to an apartment building located at 1365 Bank Street near Riverside Drive and found a unit on the 18th floor on fire.

No one was home at the time, but some tenants in neighbouring unites were evacuated due to water damage.  They were housed inside OC Transpo buses.

Damage is estimated at $125,000
