OTTAWA – A pedestrian marker has been erected by the City of Ottawa to honour a woman stuck and killed downtown earlier this year.
Family and friends of Yvonne Hendrickx, 26, were on hand as the marker was placed at the intersection of Rideau and Waller Streets, where the collision took place.
According to the Sun, city councillors hope the marker serves as more than a memorial, but also brings attention to pedestrian safety.
Hendrickx was struck and killed by a large transport truck in the early morning hours of February 21, 2014. Police have not been able to find the truck involved in the collision, and believe the driver may have no idea a person was hit.
