OTTAWA – Police are denying the report that Sidney Crosby was arrested late Tuesday night in Ottawa.

QMI Agency reports the Pittsburgh Penguins centre was arrested by Ottawa police while driving a rented Porsche.

The reason was unknown, but the agency said it appeared to be driving related, and that he was taken to the police headquarters on Elgin Street. The story has since been pulled from all affiliated websites.

All divisions of Ottawa police told 1310News they know nothing about the arrest.

“It’s an out and out blatant lie,” Sergeant Steven Hodgson told 1310News. “As far as I know, somebody is pulling something here.”

The Penguins said Crosby was “not in Canada” on Tuesday.
