OTTAWA — A Hintonburg bar, blamed by neighbours for a series of violent crimes, has effectively lost its licence and its premises.
The city’s licencing committee has decided to suspend Vibe Lounge’s food service licence until March, when the licence is scheduled to expire.
Vibe’s food licence suspension was first put into place on December 9, 2016, to address escalating violence in the area. The bar had previously lost its liquor licence.
The bar, at Somerset Street and Bayswater Avenue, will also vacate its rental space; the lease will not be renewed and the landlord is lining up a new tenant for the space.
At least two shootings in 2016 happened just steps from the bar, including the murder of Leslie Mwakio, 17, who was shot and killed in a vehicle on Bayswater Avenue in early December.
