OTTAWA – The majority of people opting for medically-assisted deaths in Ottawa are doing so in hospitals.
According to to Postmedia, eighteen people in Ottawa have had medically-assisted deaths since it became legal last year, higher than the provincial average.
Of those 18, 14 medically-assisted deaths took place in hospital. The numbers are notable because some expected most deaths would occur at home, as in Netherlands.
Advocates for medically-assisted death tell the paper, the preference for deaths in hospital show why Catholic-operated facilities, like the Bruyere and the Pembroke Regional Hospital, should not be allowed to opt out of providing medically-assisted deaths
