OTTAWA – Swarmings and personal robberies are up by a large margin so far this year in the city.
Ottawa Police tell 1310 NEWS, while the numbers in these types of crimes have been trending down over the last five or six years, swarmings are up by 24 per cent, and robberies 61 per cent.
That’s up a combined 38 per cent from last year.
So far in 2017, police have seen 119 swarmings and 95 personal robberies.
Police tell 1310 NEWS part of the problem is that victims aren’t calling 911, and when they do, they aren’t following through with a police report to try and catch the suspect.
Police encourage the victims of these crimes to report them immediately to police, and provide as much information as possible.
