OTTAWA — Ottawa Police are looking into a message on social media that led to Canterbury High School being put into “secure mode” Thursday.
The school wasn’t in lockdown, but students were kept inside the building until classes ended for the day.
No details have been released on the content of the message.
A letter sent to parents from the school says the school contacted police Thursday morning in response to rumours circulating about a possible threat at the school:
I wanted to let you know that the Ottawa Police Service is onsite at Canterbury High School this morning. The school contacted the police in response to rumours circulating about a possible threat at the school. The school has increased supervision and secured exterior doors as a precaution. I want to reassure you that all students and staff are safe. Regular classroom activities are ongoing.
There appears to be growing rumours about this on social media which is creating some anxiety and further speculation in the community. Once again, I want to reassure you that all students and staff are safe and in regular classroom activities.
If you have questions, please contact the school.
Thanks very much for your ongoing support.
