OTTAWA – The city is assuring people that Rideau Street is safe after a second hole opening up on the road Thursday afternoon.
The hole created a buzz on social media, as it wasn’t far away from the same spot where the massive 2016 sinkhole swallowed a van.
Crews said Thursday what they called a “pothole” was created by shifting sediment around a hydro wire.
Call it a sinkhole or pothole, it caused several bus routes in the downtown core to be rerouted or cancelled.
Now, the city says they have asked the Rideau Transit Group to inspect the rest of the street to make sure no more holes take them by surprise.
