Remembrance Day services in Ottawa and the Valley

OTTAWA – Canada’s National Ceremony of Remembrance is being held at the National War Memorial at the corner of Elgin and Wellington Streets.

Spectators need to arrive no later than 10:10 a.m. Dignitaries begin arriving at 10:35 a.m., followed by a ceremony and minute of silence at 11 a.m., marking the anniversary of the end of the First World War on Nov. 11, 1918.

If you are unable to attend, you can follow the ceremony virtually from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. through the Royal Canadian Legion Facebook Live stream.

Downtown road closures for the National Remembrance Day service:

Rideau/Wellington Street between Sussex/Colonel By Drive and Bank Street
Queen Street between O’Connor Street and Elgin Street
Elgin Street between Wellington Street and Albert Street
Metcalfe Street between Wellington Street and Albert Street
O’Connor Street between Wellington Street and Queen Street

There will also be temporary street closures prior to and following the ceremony at the National War Memorial:

Laurier Avenue between Nicholas Street and Elgin Street
Elgin Street between Laurier Avenue and Albert Street
Colonel By Drive between Rideau Street and Daly Avenue
MacKenzie Avenue extension between Rideau Street and Daly Avenue
Daly Avenue between Colonel By Drive and Nicholas Street
Nicholas Street (southbound) between Daly Avenue and Laurier Avenue
Elgin Street between Albert Street and Slater Street

The downtown road closures are in effect until 1 p.m.

There will be several other road closures because of a number of other Remembrance Day services in Ottawa neighbourhoods, as well as surrounding towns and villages.
