OTTAWA — A significant amount of freezing rain is on its way, Monday night into Tuesday, according to Environment Canada.
The agency is issuing a special weather statement for the Ottawa area as a developing Colorado low is forecast to cross the lower Great Lakes for the start of the work week.
Snow is forecast for much of Eastern Ontario late on Monday, but that is expected to change to freezing rain overnight and into Tuesday.
Several millimetres of rain could accumulate.
Environment Canada says roads will likely become slippery, initially due to some snow followed by a layer of freezing rain.
Freezing rain warnings will likely be issued as the weather event approaches.
