Friends of a 26-year-old Ryan Snutch, the Ottawa-area man killed by lightning are taking to Facebook to grieve and share memories.

Snutch died in a Hawkesbury hospital after the strike a nearby tree, then spread to his tent at Whispering Pines Campground near Plantagenet on Sunday.

He was in a tent with his common law wife, RoseAnn Garde, and their 14-month-old son Jullian just before 9am when lightning struck a nearby tree. The bolt was then conducted down through the ground and into the tent. The two suffered minor injuries.  A 44-year-old woman in a nearby tent, who was with the family, was also injured.

Douglas Thew, a friend of the couple told the Sun "He was a very loving father who cared about his son very, very much [...] He was very happy to be a dad." The couple had spent many nights tenting at the campground, which was owned by Garde's father.
