Victoria Day long weekend: what's open and closed?

OTTAWA – The Victoria Day long weekend brings closures around the city.

Grocery stores are closed on the holiday Monday, with the exception of the Loblaws on Rideau Street which is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Metro on Rideau Street will also be open.

Shopping Centres are closed with the exception of the Rideau Centre which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stores in the Byward Market remain open.

LCBO and Beer Store locations are closed on Monday.

Banks will be closed.

Client services:

Ottawa City Hall and all seven Client Service Centres are closed on Victoria Day. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday.

The City’s Provincial Offences Court are closed on Victoria Day. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday.

The City’s 311 Contact Centre is open for urgent matters.

Garbage, green bin and recycling collection:

There is no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Victoria Day. Victoria Day’s pick-up takes place on Tuesday, and collection is delayed by one day for the rest of the week.

There is no multi-residential green bin and recycling collection on Victoria Day, with pick-up resuming on Tuesday. Collection is delayed by one day for the week.

Multi-residential garbage collection is not delayed and takes place on its regularly scheduled day.

The Trail Waste Facility is closed on Victoria Day.

Transit service:

OC Transpo operates on a Sunday schedule on Victoria Day. Sales and Information Centres are closed, with the exception of the Rideau Centre office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The OC Transpo Information Centre is open from 9 a.m. to 5p.m., while the OC Transpo Customer Relations Department is closed.

Recreation services:

Many pools, fitness centres and some arenas are open Monday for public swimming, skating and fitness classes with modified schedules. Click here for details.

Many registered programs at swimming pools, community centres and arenas are cancelled for Monday, however, some exceptions apply.

Cultural Services:

Most City of Ottawa Archives, arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums are closed on Victoria Day. However, some exceptions may apply.

Municipal child care services:

All city-operated child care centres are closed Monday.

Ottawa Public Library:

All branches, departments and services of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed on Victoria Day, with regular hours resuming Tuesday.

Parking:

All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions apply.
