OTTAWA – The Ottawa Hospital reports that it saw more than twice the reported sex assaults last month, compared to September of last year.
There were 53 sex assaults reported last month.
The Medical Director of the Sexual Assault and Partner Abuse Care Program at the hospital, Dr. Kari Sampsel, tells 1310 NEWS, the September spike is connected to frosh week activities.
Another time of concern is Halloween, and Sampsel says people need to be aware of the risks when attending parties.
The silver lining, Sampsel says, is the jump indicates sex assault victims are feeling more comfortable coming forward, and also understand there is somewhere to go for help.
