OTTAWA — A greenhouse operation on Ramsayville Road has applied to become Ottawa’s first legal marijuana grow-op.
Artiva has applied to Health Canada to establish an indoor grow-op at an existing 549,000-square-foot greenhouse, according to Postmedia. The greenhouse would be converted from food production to marijuana production.
Artiva has also submitted an application to the city, which regulates where legal marijuana grow-ops can locate.
The city councillor for the area, Osgoode ward’s George Darouze, tells the paper that he’s been getting queries for years from people asking if there’s any land available in Osgoode ward to produce marijuana, but expressed doubt that a location could be found that would been the city’s zoning regulations. He says he was shocked to see a proposal materialize.
Darouze says he plans to talk with both planners and area residents before deciding his approach to the Artiva application.
