OTTAWA — The woman who was hit by a falling tree during last week’s violent thunderstorms, a double kidney transplant recipient, has died.

Hiba Yusef, 37, received her first kidney transplant from her brother in 2001. When it failed in 2012, she received a second transplant.

Yusef was a graduate student studying kidney disease at uOttawa.

A tree outside the main entrance to The Ottawa Hospital’s General campus fell on Yusef during extremely strong thunderstorms, last Wednesday.

Yusef was rushed to the Civic with critical injuries, and died the next day. Her funeral was held on Sunday.
