AYLMER–A hydrocarbon odor, detected during some water system repairs to a booster on Front Street, is behind the water consumption ban in a section of Aylmer.

Nearly 2,000 homes are impacted by the Tuesday advisory.

Residents in the Eardley Road, Allumettières Boulevard and Broad, Bagot, Gordon and North Streets- are advised not to drink tap water, or use it for cooking or food prep, or for washing.

Boiling water does not make it safe to consume.

Bottled water is being distributed at the the Paul Pelletier Aquatic Centre at 325 Alymer Road.

The City of Gatineau advises showers at the centre will be open until 10 o’clock Tuesday evening for residents impacted by the water ban.

Crews are flushing water lines and only once that work is complete and the water tested will the ban be lifted.

The no-consumption advisory is in place until further notice.
