OTTAWA — Ottawa Fire Services investigators are at Algonquin College today, looking to figure out what caused a blaze in an outdoor courtyard on Woodroffe Ave. near College Square.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call around 9:40am Thursday.
Callers mentioned flames about the size of a tent, near some construction equipment.
Officials say the fire eventually hit a propane tank, which caused it to explode.
Crews then secured other cylinders and gas tanks.
Black smoke could be seen from the area as some tarps and insulation had ignited.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and it was under control by 10:10am.
The school was evacuated.
No one was injured in the fire.
Ottawa Fire Services would like to take this opportunity to remind students that their priority during incidents should be to evacuate to safety, not take pictures.
