Thanksgiving weekend is right around the corner and 1310News wants to make sure that everyone in our community has a warm meal this holiday weekend. Join us in collecting turkeys for the Ottawa Mission as part of the 1310News Turkey Drop this Thursday, October 8 from 7a-5p (2001 Thurston Drive)
We are asking that you help us raise as many turkeys as we can so that all 2800 plates of Thanksgiving dinner at the Ottawa Mission include turkey. You can drop off a turkey at 2001 Thurston Drive Thursday between 7am-5pm and we will deliver them all to the Ottawa Mission in time for Thanksgiving dinner!
About The Ottawa Missions’ annual Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner:
It will be held THIS Monday, October 12th in The Mission’s dining room at 35 Waller Street.
This year, the shelter expects to serve between 2,700 and 2,800 plates of turkey dinner, which is more than double the number of breakfasts, lunches and dinners normally served on a regular day. It takes between 80 and 90 large frozen turkeys to serve everyone in need a plate a delicious Thanksgiving Dinner.
What does it take to make dinner for so many?
2,500 pounds of turkey
300 pounds of baked ham
450 pounds of mashed potatoes
400 pounds of glazed baby carrots
400 pounds of green bean almandine
350 apple pies
50 gallons of gravy
Anyone in need or alone for the holidays is welcome to come in for a delicious turkey dinner and companionship between 11:30am and 5pm.
