OTTAWA, Ont. – The latest dumping of snow to cover the capital region does not mean it’s safe to venture onto the Rideau Canal Skateway.
The National Capital Commission is again reminding the public that the ice on the Canal is too thin. Signs have been posted at Skateway access points to advise the public of the danger.
Officials say the Skateway will open once the ice is safe for public skating, and until then, everyone is asked to keep off the canal’s surface.
The Skateway typically opens in January.
