OTTAWA – A downtown building had to be evacuated because of a fire Tuesday evening.
Around 7:45 p.m., fire crews responded to multiple calls reporting smoke and visible flames coming from the seventh floor unit of an apartment building at 379 Gilmour Street, near Bank Street.
When crews arrived, a working fir was declared in unit 707. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the unit.
One person suffered smoke inhalation, was treated on scene and then taken to hospital.
The building was evacuated and Bank Street was closed between MacLaren and Lewis streets, but everything is reopened and residents have returned home.
The fire is not considered suspicious.
